The Powermat wireless line of products first unveiled at the CES show in
2009, are now available for purchase. No more fumbling for numerous charging cords and
varying adaptors; wires could soon be a thing of the past and it can't come soon enough.
The Powermat wireless charging system consists of a flat charging mat and a corresponding receiver. The Powermat is
connected to any power source (or USB to a laptop) and the receiver (sold separately) is mounted
to the desired electronic device. Once the receiver is in place and the electronic device is ready, all you do is place it onto the charging mat
and through the miracle of magnetic induction, the device begins to charge. No more wires, no more fussing around, no more baloney.
Light and sound indicators show when a successful connection has been made and what devices are still currently charging.
The slim and sleek charging mat comes in two variants, the home and office version and the folding travel
charging version. Both variants allow up to 3 Powermat enabled devices to "simultaneously wirelessly charge" along with
1 dditional device that charges utilizing the "ancient" physical USB wire medium.
According to Powermat, the charging system is faster and more precise then the equivalent standard plug in cords
and adaptors. The Powermat also features built-in proprietary RFID handshake technology that allows communication
between the mat and the receiver to ensure that each device gets the precise amount of charge, auto-shut off technology
and magnetic alignment that positions each charging electronic device precisely in the optimum position for
maximum efficient charging.
The Powermat charging system retails for $99.99 (in both variants) and should prove indispensible
to people with multiple electronic devices, which nowadays is just about everyone.
