The United Stated Air Force in conjunction with the Boeing, successfully test fired an airborne laser mounted on a modified C130 at Kirkland Air Force base in New Mexico this past weekend.

The laser was fired from an orbiting NC-130H flying at an undisclosed height range away from the target. The target as seen in the imbedded video was an old pickup truck. Once the laser is fired, you can clearly see the hood of the truck ignite with incredible and exacting precision. The Intense heat and energy of the laser is astounding, considering it is at least several thousand feet away in a moving airplane. If this isn't reminiscent of the future, I don't know what is.

According to Boeing, the futuristic laser is pinpoint precision weapon that will one day reduce collateral damage during an attack, especially in an urban environment, where military targets are often surrounded by noncombatants. Greg Hyslop, vice president and general manager of Boeing Missile Defense Systems, points out that this test demonstrates that directed energy weapons systems will transform the battle space and save lives by giving war fighters speed of light ultra-precision engagement capability.

The Air Force and Boeing plan on additional tests over the next few months. Enemies beware, the day you can be vaporized from the air is growing ever nearer...
