Coming in on the heals of Sony's recent announcement regarding development and manufacturing delays with its large OLED production TV's is
LG, who recently announced that it's 15-inch OLED unit will go on sale in Korea
next month almost two months ahead of the planned December date. In addition to the announcement, LG also released some mouth-watering
technical details about the world’s largest consumer OLED TV ahead of its unveiling at the IFA 2009
consumer electric show in Berlin.
The LG 15-inch OLED TV retains the mouth watering slimness that OLED's have come to be known for, boasting a panel thickness of 1.7mm coupled with a (1366 x 768) pixel resolution and a contrast ratio of (100,000:1).
LG has big plans for wide scale adoption of it's OLED technology and plans on speeding up its proliferation into the market place by manufacturing panels greater than 30 inches, as early as 2011. We can only hope that Sony gets their act together soon, or they risk losing a big slice of market share, in a technology they just about pioneered.
LG hopes to begin offering the 15-inch OLED TV in other markets sometime in 2010 after the initial launch
in Korea. No word on pricing yet.
