Subaru recently unveiled the 400 horsepower WRX STI snow stomping machine at the SEMA Motor show, in what has to be one of the most outrageous off-roading machines ever made.

Based on the rally-prepped 2009 WRX STI, the TRAX version was built by Vermont Sportscar for SRT USA driver Ken Block and is an exact duplicate of his competition racing #43 version.

The WRX STI TRAX began life as a stock Impreza WRX STI, at which point Vermont SportsCar completely gutted the interior, reduced the shell weight and fully seam welded it for added strength. Vermont SportsCar also installed a multipoint steel roll cage "just in case", along with Recaro Spa ProRacer sports seats, carbon fiber door panels and a onboard fire suppression system. Topping it all off is a Yakima FatCAt 4 Snowboard rack, Yakima Landing pad rack base and DC Shows XFB-C Snowboards.

This abominable snow beast is powered by a 2.5 turbocharged four-cylinder engine with MOTEC M800 ECU that churns out an incredible 400 hp and 400 lb-ft torque. Power is sent to the "M1 treads" via a Vermont SportCar installed KAPS five-speed close ratio gearbox, a Subaru programmable driver controlled center differential all wheel drive system, custom machined hubs and Group N rally dampers by EXE-TC.

No estimate on what the WRX STI TRAX cost to build, but if you can afford it and have the open terrain available to you, I suggest parking your snowmobile and calling Vermont SportsCar, it's just that awesome.
