The Chevy Volt , GM's new electric car slated to go on sale
November 2010, is expected to get an estimated EPA rating of 230
miles per gallon city and over 100 miles per gallon
combined city/highway, the automaker announced Tuesday. (shown above is the first photo of the Volt's home charger)
These mind-blowing numbers will thrust the Volt into an entirely new and uncharted mileage class, one that was previously unattainable.
According to GM CEO Fritz Henderson, "Having a car that gets triple-digit fuel economy can and will be a game changer for us".
If the Volt is driven 50 miles in a day, the first 40 miles would be gas free and the remaining 10 miles
would use .2 gallons, equating to approximately 250 miles per gallon. The mileage numbers would drop as
the car is driven farther without charging it again.
GM has started making 10 pre-production Volts a week since June.
The Volt will cost an estimated $40,000 per vehicle or around $32,500 after the
$7,500 Federal tax credit is applied.
