Released back in April 2009 and gaining tremendous momentum is the the Zero S street legal supermoto motorcycle from Zero Inc.
Powered purely by electricity and emitting no emissions, the Zero S is capable of speeds up to 55MPH, with a range of 50 miles.
Based on the underpinnings of the Zero X dirt bike, the Zero S extends the same brilliant design philosophy and repackages it, for the urban realm.
The Zero S utilizes the original lightweight aluminum frame and couples it with a new larger 4 kilowatt-hour propriety lithium ion array, that weighs
in at 80 lbs and produces approximately 31 horsepower with 62.5 foot-pounds or torque. This new propriety ion-array battery is slated to last 5-6 years
depending on usage and costs around $3,000 to replace.
All this wonderful clean power flows directly to the rear wheel, there is no need for a transmission
(Or gas for that matter); its just instant 'grunt' force and it's exhilarating. The Zero S retails for $9,950 and it qualifies for a 10% federal tax credit.
As the electrification of the world continues and people become increasingly aware that electric powered products now approach or surpass their
gas equivalents, the market should expand exponentially with Zero Inc well positioned to be the world leader in producing electric powered motorcycles and beyond.
