It was only a matter of time before electrified ATV's and side by sides reached the market place. New for 2010, and ready to quell the environmentalists who often see off-roading as the bane of their existence, is the new Polaris Electric EV Ranger side-by-side. Powered by a 30 HP 48-volt High-Efficiency AC-Inducted Electric motor, the electric Ranger can reach speeds of up to 25MPH and has an estimated range of 50 miles. The Ranger EV is charged from a standard 110 volt outlet and is a pure electric vehicle emitting no emissions and requiring no gasoline. It retails for $10,699, depending on configuration.

The Ranger EV represents an entirely new and 'un-tapped burgeoning' market segment for clean and environmentally sensitive off-road vehicles that produce a 'small to none' emissions footprint. Although not quite as powerful as the equivalent gasoline side-by-side, the new Ranger EV proves that clean and emissions free off-roading is a reality with current technology. As battery advancements continue their torrid pace, the electric motor may very well supplant the small gasoline motor and become the engine of choice.
