Apple unveiled its latest and greatest this afternoon; the new and most powerful iPhone to date, the 3GS with “S” designating “Speed”. Available June 19th in 8 countries, the new 3GS should please the huge hoards of iPhone zealots whose insatiable appetite for the iPhone keeps growing unabated each year.
Here’s a summary of the new iPhone 3G’s features:
“S” for Speeeed
- The iPhone 3GS contains a new and faster next generation processor that Apple claims is up to two times faster than the previous generation and in certain applications 2.6 times faster.
Camera
- Built-in 3 megapixel camera with autofocus, white-balance, exposure, tap to focus and superior low light sensitivity
- Video capture with a new switch that says ‘still’ or ‘video’ at 30 frames per second with autofocus.
- Any application can access all the camera functions now.
- Video trimming using your finger
- Video sharing (if support by carrier) via MMS, email, MobileMe and YouTube.
Support Networks & Connectivity
- Three band UMTS/HSDPA.
- Four band GSM/EDGE.
- Wi-Fi 802.11b/g.
- Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
Display
- New 3D graphics support incorporated into the hardware which should result in more in-depth and sophisticated 3D Games.
- A fingerprint resistant oleophobic coating.
Dimensions
- Dimensions are exactly the same as the 3G only with a slight gain in overall weight from
133 grams to 135 grams.
- Greener materials: Arsenic-free glass, BDF-free, Mercury-free LCD.
Special Features
- A built in digital compass.
- Voice Control. Hold down the home button and the commands you can use scroll by.
Battery
- Improved battery life. Up to 9 hours surfing with Wi-Fi, 30 hours of audio, 12 hours of 2G talk time, 5 hours of 3G talk.

- $199 for the 16GB version.
- $299 for the 32GB version.

I agree, everyone is going to love this. Will current iphone owners be able to turn in their phones and get a new one for a discounted price By the way, beautiful pictures Gizmotrix...you can really see all of the detail from every angle....
I wonder when Apple will come out with a Flip or Nano version of the iPhone There's rumors of each out on the web etc., but they don't seem to have much merit ...
I just read that you will be able to use the Mobile Me service to perform a remote wipe on your iphone if you lose it. You will also be able to triangulate your lost iphone location using the same service.

I wish, I wouldn't count on an existing iphone user trade in unless maybe you purchased it the week prior to the 3G-s release...

I did not know about the triangulation feature for finding a lost iphone. That is a very useful feature. Way to go Apple...
